In 1958 Jack went into business with a backhoe and a dump truck thus becoming Butts Excavating & Trucking along with a garbage route.

Being one to always think to the future, Jack expanded to include excavation and septic services for his customers. Jack built a reputation as being fair and honest.

Butts Concrete Products ,Inc. came to be with ready mix and precast concrete products. In the early 1970's Jack owned an Overhead Door franchise which was later sold to make room for Oneonta Rent A Jon segment of his holdings.

Butts Companies have been serving Delaware, Chenango , Otsego, Ulster, Broome, Sullivan and Greene Counties for 55 plus years.

In 1963 Jack married Jane Sloan from Cortland, NY. In 1966 Steve Roff came on board as equipment operator and Jack and Jane's daughter Kathy was born. Both of which are still with the company today.

In 1986 Kathy married Terry Lent and had two daughters, Amanda and Alisha.

In 1998 after many years of declining health Jack lost his battle with kidney disease.

Kathy, Terry, daughter Amanda and sons in law Nathan Swartwout & Matthew Clark continue to run Butts Companies with the help of both new and long term employees who started with Jack.

With the dedication and continued efforts of the staff at Butts Concrete Inc. ,Butts Excavating, Inc. and Oneonta Rent a Jon we have remained successful.
